The NRA’s Main Job.

How anyone can think a poorly trained, garage formed militia of Second Amendment spouting pseudo Rambos, armed with their Walmart AR-15 assault weapons, is any match for the most powerful armed forces in the world is beyond my comprehension.

The concept of fighting off a tyrannical government is the myth put forward by the NRA. The NRA is nothing more than a shill for gun and ammo makers. They have done nothing more than profit from public paranoia, a paranoia, that they helped to spread and sustain.

Wow, are you ignorant. No matter what your stance is on gun control is you are dead wrong. Open a history book sometime. Poorly armed citizens/insurgents have been giving nightmares to superpowers throughout military history. Ever hear of Vietnam? The Soviets in Afghanistan? America in Afghanistan? The Boer War? How about those poorly armed farmers at Lexington and Concord? What about the many civil wars where large parts of the military desert and join the insurgents? When you are outgunned your strategy changes from winning battles to bleeding them over time. And those become the worst kind of wars where the regular people suffer the most.

Since I’m a history major, I’m well aware of all of these events you’ve listed, thank you very much. What these all have in common is that there was a common cause that motivated and united the majority of the people into action. Yes, unity and motivation are very powerful weapons I grant you that. Other factors are the knowledge of the regions you mentioned, etc, etc. I’m aware of the fact that the little man can indeed hold off or overthrow governments.

However, this would not be one of those times. There is no unity nor universal motivation to overthrow the U.S. government. A band of militants with a handful of weapons that they bought at Wal-mart is no threat to the government. Besides, the whole argument is moot; no one is coming after anybody’s weapons. This is a myth perpetuated by the NRA in order to sell memberships and boost gun and ammo sales for their sponsors, nothing more. This government has never said that Americans could not own guns. It has merely expressed an interest in regulating what kind of guns can be sold, as well as the processes that must be undertook in order to own one. These are processes and limitations that go back to conservative icon Ronald Reagan, who initiated such thoughts, and are upheld by today’s ultra conservative Supreme Court.

    Have a nice day.

You are so far off base it’s not even funny. Do you honestly think that the entire US military with engage with US citizens with planes and tanks on US soil? It would be the end of this country as we know it. USA no more. Even if this ridiculous scenario you’ve conjured up were to happen, how many US soldiers do you think would be willing to bomb their own people? Their own friends, family? Destroy the country they were born in and grew up in? Never gonna happen buddy.

I never said it would happen. What I said is that if all the paranoid so called “Patriots” think that stock piling assault grade weapons will protect their liberties, they are sadly mistaken. All of the garage formed militias with their Wal-mart bought assault rifles are no match for our military, or anyone else’s military for that matter, in spite of whatever beer fueled delusions they may hold.
