I Went to a Hockey Game Last Night, And a Race War Broke Out.

You have to hand it to Boston Bruin fans; they take their hockey serious. They take their racism serious as well. Check out this series of tweets posted below. This Twitter Klan rally is all because Washington Capital Joel Ward dared to knock the Bruins out of the playoffs with an overtime goal in game seven of their series.  I’m not surprised that blatant racism is alive and well in Boston; Their sports teams were some of  the last to integrate; in fact integration in general was fought every step of the way over the last three centuries before and after abolition.

You stay classy Boston.

That’s depressing snapshot of society. If you ask me, the better team wins. I love the Bruins, but race has NOTHING to do with the NHL. Even more depressing is that the majority of them look like young kids tweeting this rubbish.

It’s an interesting point that most of these tweets are from young adults. I think it is very telling of the disconnect that our younger generations are experiencing. I racism doesn’t have an age limit, but wow, some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths is just mind boggling.

But these kids didn’t just come to this on their own- I think it’s a “nurture” thing, not a “nature” one, racism- born out of ignorance or not…

Great point, and absolutely right. Racism is a time honored method to guarantee fragmentation among the middle and impoverished classes. By keeping the classes at odds with each other, the elites make sure they stay elite. Racism is a perfect tool to that end, and racism that is handed down from generation to generation helps perpetuate the balance of power. For the most part, racists beget racists; it’s what the upper class wants.

Sad but not surprising that one of the oldest cities in the States gets caught in such a blatant display of one of the oldest traits of the States

A sad commentary on the game, the city, and society.

Boston, as well as Massachusetts, has always been portrayed as a progressive region because of the Kennedy legacy. Truth is, with their Puritan/Calvinist beginnings, they’re really not very progressive at all.

To be devil’s advocate, we do not know where the Tweets originated.

That’s what you get for going on Twitter. It is the Skid Row of the mind.

I think I agree with you. Except for my Tweets; those are words that feed the intellect. If your intellect really likes junk food 😉

I expect your Tweets probably don’t suck that bad. However, given the intellectual capacity of the Twit Zone, your Tweets are a pointless waste of your time and intellect. It’s like feeding caviar to pigs.
