Choking On Your Chicken? It’s Because It’s Loaded With Arsenic!

Chickens pecking at feed

Here’s a deeply disturbing article from Mother Jones that may cause you to stop eating chicken forever. According to MoJo, Pfizer, the same company that sells us those little blue boner pills, also manufactures a chicken feed additive called Roxarsone, which contains arsenic. Early last week, Pfizer announced that it would no longer make the additive, because there were significant levels of arsenic found in raw chicken at the supermarket level. Until this year, Pfizer was producing 2 million pounds of the additive a year, which is half of what is sold in the U.S.

Roxarsone has been around since the 40’s; it is used to kill Coccidiosis, a parasitic condition that results from the chickens standing around in their own crap all day while they’re waiting to be slaughtered. It was also discovered that the arsenic laced additive was helpful in boosting the chicken’s growth, so that we would be able to ingest poison from even bigger birds. Stay with me here; it gets worse.

An average chicken house contains between 25 to 30 thousand birds, producing literally tons of poisonous chicken poo to dispose of. So where does all this
crap go? It gets used as fertilizer of course, either directly spread on farmland, or converted and sold as fertilizer pellets. As a result, arsenic is now found in tap water where the fertilizer is used. I would bet my ass that it’s found in the food grown on those farms as well.

In 1999 the European Union forced European producers to stop using the additive because of the arsenic. In 2004, Tyson stopped using it as well. As a result, both the FDA and USDA responded by doing nothing. Even though they damn well knew that the additive causes bladder, kidney, lung, liver and prostate cancer, as well as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and even neurological disorders in children, they didn’t do a fucking thing to stop the use of Roxarsone . Way to look out for the consumer, you money grubbing douchebags. Even after Pfizer’s announcement, both agencies refuse to acknowledge the health risks.

This is another example of how the over consumption of poultry and meat is coming back to bite us in the ass. Supply struggles to meet demand, creating overcrowding on chicken ranches, which results in disease. The chickens are fed arsenic laced feed additives to produce bigger, healthier chickens, which in turn is not only in the poultry we consume, but is also found in the water we drink, and the vegetables we eat. No wonder our health care costs continue to sky rocket!

My partner and I have been transitioning to a primarily organic, meat free diet. It may cost more, but we both feel so much better! I don’t know about you, but I’m done poisoning myself. I already take in enough pollutants from the air and water. I certainly would like to avoid death by poultry.

Furthermore, we should all thank the FDA and USDA for their silent condoning of the use of Roxarsone, by treating them to a big bucket of extra crispy.

I have always felt that many of my health problems have derived from the abuse of chemicals in a modicum of ways. Going organic seems to be proving it as some problems have drastically decreased, but things like arsenic and dioxins are stored in the fat cells and have a cumulative effect. No matter how well I eat for the rest of my life, that damage can’t be repaired by abstaining. Things like this should warrant criminal charges. They affect people’s lives unto death, literally.

You’re damn right there should be charges.Charges should be filed on the ranchers that use the additive, the companies who produce it, as well as the FDA and USDA for doing nothing to stop it. In my eyes they’re all guilty of fowl play!

Good for you. There are all sorts of chemicals, hormones, etc. in our food now. From nitrites to HFCS (I avoid HFCS like the plague). Now we have arsenic. Lovely.

Arsenic or not, though, if someone waves a fried drumstick in my face, I’ll eat it.
