Delaware Jumps on Same Sex Marriage Bandwagon
8 states down, 42 to go. Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed into law on Wednesday a bill allowing legal protections for same sex civil unions. This is great news; now let’s see if we can get those other 42 states in line!
While some states seem to be coming around on same sex unions, as well as rights protections for those who are same sex oriented, more hard work is still ahead. For starters DOMA needs to be abolished, and same sex marriage needs to be protected on a federal level. While protection on a state level is good, to be afforded the same protections and opportunities that heterosexual couples enjoy on a national level would be even better. Refusing to defend DOMA in federal court is simply not enough.
Delaware and Jack Markell get it: I wish John Boehner and his homophobic cronies would get it as well.
