One of The Dumbest Questions Ever

Down here, in the sleepy river town of East Jesus Kentucky where I live, the churches are more prevalent than Walgreens. A sign in front of one of the many houses of the holy along my 25 mile drive to work poses this question:
“What if god doesn’t believe in atheists?”
This question was borrowed from Ray Comfort’s book “God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists: Proof That The Atheist Doesn’t Exist.” Apparently, the pastor of East Jesus Baptist Church thought it would be a hoot to pose this question to passers-by, as well as his congregation. The answer to the question is this:
We simply do not give a fuck.

Obama Comes Out In Favor of Marriage Equality.

Did I just see rainbow smoke coming from the White House chimney? In an interview with ABC News Robin Roberts today, President Obama echoed the sentiments of Joe Biden ( without the off the wall Will & Grace comments):
OBAMA:”I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about. members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point
I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”
The interview is scheduled to air tonight.
I must say, this is a pretty bold statement, considering the fact that it’s an election year. Hopefully, he’ll get another 4 years to back that statement up. As I stated in a previous post, it’s going to take a hell of a lot of work to get rid of DOMA, and finally bring about marriage equality on a federal level.
I hope Obama’s actions will be louder than his words.

Who’s Your Celebrity Doppelganger?
While we all are indeed unique individuals, inevitably we all tend to resemble other people. My first encounter with my “doppelganger,” was my freshman year in high school. I had heard rumors of a sophomore who looked just like me, but until I saw him for myself, I didn’t believe it. As we resemble others in ordinary life, so too do many of us resemble certain celebrities. The following list is the different celebrities that others have compared me to over the course of the years, in no particular order:
Billy Bob Thornton. Seriously? Ugh!

John Travolta. Ok, I can live with that.

Dan Akroyd. There was a woman I worked with who swore I looked exactly like him.
James Marsterson, the guy that played Spike on Buffy. I’m not so sure about that one. Actually it was a Facebook app that matched your face to celebrities that came up with that one.

Back when I had long hair and a beard in my younger days, a server told my first wife that I looked “just like the lead singer in Alabama.” It wasn’t long after that I cut my hair and shaved my beard.
I’ve also been told many a time that I look like shit, but I’m not posting any pictures of that.
So who is your celebrity doppelganger?
Pastor Sean Harris Wants To Beat The Gay Away From Our Children
Sean Harris, the Senior pastor of the Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is getting hard core about what to do with those pesky, gender bending children these days: Corporal punishment. While giving a fire and brimstone type endorsement of proposed Amendment 1, the Amendment that would outlaw civil unions and domestic partnerships in the Tarheel state, Harris went off on a tangent about boys and girls who do not conform to patriarchal gender roles. Check out this transcript, in all of its hateful goodness:
“So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, ‘Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,’ you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting too butch, you reign [sic] her in. And you say, ‘Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.’”
Harris later back pedaled, and claimed that he was joking; does that transcript seem like joking to you? No? Me Neither.
This is exactly the kind of venom filled rhetoric that promotes domestic violence in the home, bullying in the school, and hate crimes in society, and for what? To force a child who may be wired a little differently, to conform to what society and religion dictates as proper? I call bullshit!
I could go on a rant about a child’s sexual orientation and how homosexuality or at the very least, the crossing of gender lines is completely natural. I could also stand on my tinfoil covered soap box, and preach about acceptance, love, and understanding of each others differences. The fact of the matter is that most rational people understand all that. The fact that Amendment 1 is likely to crash and burn is a testimony to that fact.
It’s the hateful homophobes like Sean Harris who do not understand that sexuality is naturally in a perpetual shade of grey. The decision to hate the difference in sexuality is the choice, not the difference in sexuality itself. Hopefully, the Sean Harris’s of the world will one day come to understand this.
Until that day comes, most of us will continue to use our voices and our votes to beat the pray away.

Five Men Arrested In Ohio For Trying To Blow Up A Bridge With Fake Explosives.

5 men who claim to be Anarchists were arrested late Monday afternoon, for attempting to blow up the route 82 bridge, just south of Cleveland Ohio. The explosives that they bought to blow up the bridge were fake, so I imagine they would have had a tough time with that endeavor if they had not been caught.
Dudes, you’re giving the rest of us Anarchists a bad name. Besides, isn’t it Governor Kasich’s responsibility to wreck shit in Ohio?

As the debate over global warming in political, economic, and scientific circles rages on, there is one rather sizable faction that is convinced that climate change is a certainty: The military. As the polar ice cap continues to melt, military exercises involving many arctic circle countries are already taking place. Just last month, Norway conducted one of the largest military exercises ever, involving 16,300 troops from 14 countries. This exercise, named “Exercise Cold Response,” was used for training in everything ranging from extreme cold weather warfare to fighting terrorism. Two months ago, the U.S, Canada, and Denmark held similar exercises. In addition, military leaders of the U.S, Canada, Russia, Iceland,Denmark, Sweden, and Finland will be meeting in May to discuss potential security issues in the Arctic region.
So why, in the face of the rapidly melting ice cap, is security an issue? Why else? Oil and natural gas. It is estimated that 13% of the world’s undiscovered oil, and 30% of the world’s untapped natural gas lies beneath all that melting ice. As shipping lanes open in the great white north, the exploitation of its resources will not be far behind. KA-CHING!
This is why the energy companies are trying to dispute global warming; they know damn good and well that there are a plethora of natural resources underneath all that ice. It’s in their best economic interest to continue to destroy the planet. The collective military powers around the arctic circle understand this, and are rapidly preparing for oil wars that will most certainly ensue in the decades to come.

Brian Beckmann Thinks Trayvon Martin’s Parents Are Sh!t Bags.
Apparently Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue Department Captain Brian Beckmann doesn’t like the arrest of Trayvon Martin’s killer. It seems that he doesn’t think much of Trayvon’s parents either. Beckmann is under investigation by Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue for this cute little rant he posted on Facebook:
Wow dude, that’s quite the racist little bitch session you have going there. I think you might want to exchange your fire helmet for a white hood. Yeesh.
